A year ago, in our blog, we offered a sneak peek at AnyLogic 9, its development, and its launch. Last month, at the AnyLogic Conference we previewed version 9, gave test access to AnyLogic Public Cloud subscribers, and answered questions from the audience. 1. How do AnyLogic 9 and AnyLogic 8 differ?

  • AnyLogic 9 is a browser-based application. AnyLogic 8 users can create models with the desktop version and run them remotely in the Cloud. With AnyLogic 9, model building and editing will be possible in a browser.
  • AnyLogic 9 comes with a redesigned interface. We are sure that it will facilitate model building and interaction with the software.
  • Thanks to a modern technology stack, the new version will work much faster. This helps while developing large models such as warehouses, plants, ports, or highways. Cloud computing will also speed up model execution and its animation.
  • AnyLogic 9 will be fully integrated with AnyLogic Cloud. You can go directly from AnyLogic Cloud into the AnyLogic 9 web interface to start creating and editing models. Plus, in the Cloud, your models are always available online.

2. How to install AnyLogic 9?

  • First, we are launching a SaaS version of AnyLogic 9 integrated with AnyLogic Public Cloud. At this stage, AnyLogic 9 will be accessible via subscription and we will take care of updates and Cloud infrastructure.
  • Next, our team will release the server-based version of AnyLogic 9. This type of installation is targeted at corporate users, with their own computing resources, who want to store data within the company and control access to it.
  • After that, we will bring to release AnyLogic 9 for desktop. This version will store files on your computer and operate standalone. This configuration is for individual users, as well as those who want to work offline.

3. Is it safe to use AnyLogic on a public server?

Yes. Unless you intentionally share a simulation, nobody can access the model, its source files, or experiment results.

The SaaS version of AnyLogic 9, as well as AnyLogic Public Cloud, runs on Amazon Web Services. AWS infrastructure follows international information security standards. Amazon servers and data centers have multiple layers of operational and physical protection. This ensures data storage reliability, continuous uptime, and protection against attacks.

4. Will Python be released only with AnyLogic 9?

We are developing an experimental version of AnyLogic 8 that supports Python code (here’s what you should know about it). So, Python may appear in AnyLogic even earlier, in one of the future public updates. For sure, we will share this news with you, stay tuned!

5. Can I access AnyLogic 9 right now?

Access to the version 9 is open to active AnyLogic Public Cloud subscribers. They, as well as future subscribers, can use AnyLogic 9 for free until September 22, 2022.

6. Can I use AnyLogic 9 instead of AnyLogic 8?

We are actively developing AnyLogic 9, and so far, its functionality lags behind AnyLogic 8 due, in particular, to:

  • Incompatibility with the current version of AnyLogic: currently version 9 supports only models that were created in it. In the future, it will work with those built in AnyLogic 8 as well.
  • Limited tools for modeling: AnyLogic 9 has two libraries (Process Modeling and Pedestrian), space markup, and presentation elements.
  • Model export restrictions: simulations created in AnyLogic 9 launch only in the public version of AnyLogic Cloud.

We strongly encourage AnyLogic Public Cloud subscribers to take part in the AnyLogic 9 testing and share their experiences with us. In the meantime, we will continue updating AnyLogic 9 to provide you with the best user experience.
