Multi-Method Modeling in Automated Warehouse Storage Systems Simulation

This article explores the integration of Vertical Lift Modules with shuttle-based storage and retrieval systems to enhance automated warehouse storage systems and improve order-picking efficiency. Using AnyLogic simulation, the research evaluates system performance through discrete-event and agent-based simulation modeling.

Modeling and Simulation to Improve Real Electric Vehicles Charging Processes by Integration of Renewable Energies and Buffer Storage

The present study explores a simulation model combining system dynamics and discrete-event simulation for an electric vehicle charging system. The model allows for different parameters to be set individually, enabling the exploration of different system and usage scenarios. Multiple simulation runs were performed to analyze the considered energy system over a 1-year period and compare relevant output parameters for different system configurations and system locations.

A System Dynamics Simulation-Based Sustainability Benchmarking

Sustainability assessment is a multi-faceted, dynamic, and complex paradigm in the context of buildings with several social, economic, and environmental interactions. Currently, the building sector lacks a sustainability evaluation and benchmarking mechanism. So, a system-thinking approach that can solve these challenges due to its ability to evaluate complex systems was developed.

A Simulation-Heuristic Approach to Optimally Design Drone Delivery Systems in Rural Areas

Commercial companies are looking at drones as a viable source of package transportation. Many supply chains have started to experiment with drone delivery systems and simulation modeling helps with such investigations a lot. The developers modeled the drone delivery problem with agent-based simulation and optimized the locations of drone depots and charging stations.

Patient Flow Management Policy Evaluation with Simulation Software

Healthcare is facing great challenges to make processes more efficient and meanwhile provide better service to patients. Management of the intensive care unit (ICU), which is one of the most critical departments in terms of patient status and patient flow, also tries to provide better service and reduce the mortality rate.

During COVID-19, effective and efficient management is of utmost importance. A patient flow model developed in AnyLogic simulation software allows a comprehensive evaluation of eleven different management policies for controlling ICU admissions when facing capacity shortages.

Data-Driven Predictive Modeling of Resource Utilization in Healthcare

The main objective of this paper is to provide a simulation-based decision-support tool for the healthcare industry. This tool will help the hospital management decide on resource utilization, in particular bed allocation, for the next few months. With it, hospitals could predict admissions and see how newly implemented policies impact the patient’s flow.

Investment Risk Management and Simulation Software for Multi-period Acquisition Planning Under Deep Uncertainty

Acquisition planning involves decisions to be made regarding the number of assets to be acquired initially and the type and timing of replacement and upgrade actions to maintain performance measures efficiently. Acquisition planning is challenging for high-valued assets because of considerable uncertainties in their long-term life cycle. This article proposes an approach to determine which acquisition strategy—i.e. what initial number of assets, what number of new acquisitions, and in what time throughout a long-term planning period—can robustly fulfil multiple performance objectives in the face of plausible future scenarios.

Marine Logistics Decision Support for Operation and Maintenance of Offshore Wind Parks with a Multi Method Simulation Model

The offshore wind industry in Europe is looking to move further from shore and increase the size of wind parks and wind turbines. As of now marine logistics during the operation and maintenance life cycle phase is, besides wind turbine reliability, the most important limitation for wind turbine service, repair and replacement, and pose a large risk for wind park operators and owners.
